Management Porn

It’s a derogatory term for a presentation with more graphs and charts than necessary. Management porn may not be terribly informative, but it is said to make managers happy either to see the charts and graphs or to present them.

It’s the way of presenting what seems to be important here, not the relevance. From my own experience using the command line is preferable for doing tasks and research. But the current world of youtube users and visual oriented people is graphs, bars and big screens with evidence we’re in control. reports are showing an  enormous amount of information.

It’s therefore that sales guys are  selling software with massive nice dashboards presenting an overview what is mainly meant for management purposes.

And I do it of course as well. Since it it’s sometimes necessary.

Personally I always try to use this incorporate it in current systems. Also the Open Source tools like ELK for Log Monitoring, or Nagios for the Health Monitoring is also providing a good overview with Dashboards.

Recently also in Big data analysis we see an increased demand visualization of data analysis
